Career:
Joined Hertfordshire Police Authority as Communications Assistant in 2000 straight from university.
St Albans City & District Council as Community Safety Co-ordinator 2001-2002, wrote the Community Safety Strategy 2002-2005 and the Best Value Review of Community Safety.
Sainsburys’ Supermarkets PLC (611), Office Assistant and then Grocery Assistant 1995-2002.

Party Political Background

Local:
Moved to St Albans in 2004 having been the Agent and Organiser for the 2003 local elections and worked in the area since graduating in 2000.
Stood for Batchwood Ward in 2004, taking the Liberal Democrats from third place to second and within just 34 votes of taking the seat.
Continued to work in Batchwood, and also Marshalswick South and won the nomination for County Council where he took the Labour seat in 2005.
Since being elected he has become one of the two Liberal Democrat nominations on Hertfordshire Police Authority due to his professional background in the field. He is also the Police Authorities Community Engagement Lead for St Albans City & District.
On the County he also sits on the Adult Care and Community Safety and Health Overview and Scrutiny Committees and is chairing his first Topic Panel.

National and International:
Joined the Liberal Democrats in October 1996 at 18. Involved in Liberal Democrat Youth & Students in particular International Committee. Passed motions on trade unions and international current affairs such as Singapore Cyber Laws and European Union. (www.ldys.org.uk)
Member of LYMEC (European Liberal Youth) 2002. Designed their current logo and helped write European Elections Manifesto 2004. (www.lymec.org)
Represented LDYS to IFLRY- International Federation of Liberal Youth, 2002-
Represented IFLRY to various international youth events including running the Greek Presidency Youth Event in 2002. Ran an international seminar in 2003 in the UK, and also passed motions at IFLRY General Assemblies on issues such as Russia. (www.iflry.org)
He has also sat on the Liberal Democrat International Relations Committee and as an ELDR Council Representative (www.eldr.org)

Allan has been heavily involved with a variety of organisations. This ranges from sitting on the Regional Executive of UNISON (www.unisoneastern.org.uk)and on National Black Members Standing Orders Committee through to editing International Youth Magazines such as LIBEL (www.thelibel.com) and The New Federalist (www.jef-europe.org).
He has run international events in a number of countries on behalf of organisations such as the European Youth Forum (YFJ) (www.youthforum.org) and addressed the European Convention in 2002. However, this has now been overtaken by his work representing the people of St Albans.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (www.thersa.org.uk), originally joining as a Young Leader as part of the International Year of Volunteers and was a School Governor at 23.
Whilst at University he was awarded Honorary Life Membership of University College London Union for outstanding contributions and sat on the Executive of the largest Student Union in Europe, University of London, when it sold Motspur Football Ground for £2.5m.
He has previously held a black belt in martial arts and practiced a number of styles.
