Bryan Hammond
Welcome to the webpages of Councillor Bryan Hammond, Conservative Party Councillor
Bryan and his wife Jan have lived in Hertfordshire for 28 years and his children attended Richard Hale and Presdales Schools before University.
He has represented the Hertford Rural division since 1997 following early retirement from an international insurance broking organisation.
With a keen interest in environmental matters, Bryan chaired the Development Control Committee for 4 years. He pursued his interest in heritage and culture at county level, chairing the County's Museum Committee for 6 years. He also serves as a Trustee on the Hertfordshire Heritage Fund, which supports museum purchases.
With fellow East Herts County Councillors Bryan is against the housing numbers put forward by the East of England Assembly, feeling that Hertfordshire's proposed numbers are already sufficiently stretching very limited resources and infrastructure. Similarly he is concerned at the impact wider expansion at Stansted will have on East Herts. From this it can be seen that preservation of our rural environment is a high priority. "We have glorious countryside that needs to be protected for the use by all of the County."
Bryan has real concerns about the impact of the School Admission Rules and the Home to School Transport Rules on villages, which he feels are being very harshly treated by their application.
In May 2005 he was elected Chairman of the County Council. "This was a great honour and my wife Jan and I are relishing the opportunity of visiting all areas of the County and meeting so many people doing good works in so many different and voluntary ways. It is a humbling experience".
Politics pays a large part in the Hammond family with son Stephen being the M.P. for Wimbledon.
