Dave Hewitt
Welcome to the webpages of Councillor Dave Hewitt, Conservative Party Councillor
Dave Hewitt moved to Cheshunt in 1968 soon after he married to run an electrical retail shop. 5 years later he opened his own business. Dave was elected to represent Cheshunt at the County Council in May 2005. He and his wife ran their successful electronics repair business until about a year after he was elected but when he was given extra responsibility at County Council he wound up his business to work full time as a County Councillor .
After a period of time working closely with the libraries and archives services which saw better facilities and longer opening hours, he moved on to have responsibilities in Adult Care Services throughout Hertfordshire as Deputy Executive member. This included being Hertfordshire County Council’s representative on the Herts Partnership Foundation Trust which provides Mental Health Facilities for Hertfordshire.
Since June 2009 Dave’s role has changed and he has become Deputy Executive member for Children’s Services, although he still retains a seat on the Adult Care Panel. He is also a member of the Health Scrutiny Panel.
Dave has two grown up sons who were born and educated in the Borough of Broxbourne and now has twin granddaughters who also attend school there.
He has always been keenly interested in education and was pleased to be appointed a Governor of Arlesdene Nursery School in Cheshunt , where his eldest son started his education in 1976. Dave was able to help secure one of the highest levels of funding from the Children’s Centres Fund which enabled the building of a Children’s Centre at Arlesdene. This is also a community facility for other uses such as Adult Education.
Later Dave was asked by the Board of Governors at TurnfordSchool, as their CountyCouncillor , to help with difficulties that had arisen following a multi million pound development at the school. He was able to obtain a further £200,000.00 grant to assist with the refurbishment. Subsequently he was asked to join the Board of Governors and takes an active interest in the running and improvement of the School.
Dave is closely involved with the Cheshunt Community, attending consultative meetings on Safety and Policing in Central and North Cheshunt. He works with resident’s associations and has helped many members of the public with their concerns. He was actively involved in the protests over the proposed closure of Chase Farm A & E, and with Borough colleagues has successfully persuaded the PCT to make CheshuntCommunityHospital an Urgent Care Centre. He is also involved with fund raising for a local over 60’s club and visits this facility regularly.
Dave’s hobbies include helping to run an internet group for electronic technicians, video film production and classic cars restoration.
