Stephen Bernard Albert Frederick Henry Giles-Medhurst : b 8 April 1957 educ Lascelles Secondary Mod for Boys, Harrow College. M Jane 1978 (div 1986). 1 Daughter, Christina, 8 May 1980, 1 son Andrew, 7 February 1983. 4 grandchildren. Married long term partner Sue Bartrick in June 2008.
Career:
Joined Civil Service October 1975; Export Credits Guarantee Department, Credit underwriter, 75-80, 1980-90 economic and political risk analysis, Far and Middle East, inc extensive travel, HM Customs and Excise (now Revenue and Customs) since 1990, and due to become UK Border Agency in August.
Vat controller of several large multi national companies 1990-95, Single Market specialist 1993-97, Anti Smuggling Manager, Law Enforcement, frontier controls at Heathrow 1997-03, Senior Policy Advisor on bio security & related law enforcement issues, 03-06.

Political
Past history:
Joined Liberal Party October 1974. Elected sole Liberal seat on Harrow Council, Headstone South ward in May 1978 elected by 23 votes. Only Liberal gain from Conservatives in London that year. 21st Birthday was nomination day. Re-elected for next 20 years until 1998. Group leader 1978-82, whip 82-87, deputy leader 87-92, 96-98. Deputy Mayor 94-95, first Lib Dem and youngest Harrow Mayor 95-96.
Chair of Traffic Sub Committee 94-95, Policy and Resources 96-97, Finance 97-98, Planning West 97-98. Member London Fire and Civil Defence authority 96-98, GLC candidate Harrow Central seat (now defunct) 1981 securing highest ever Liberal vote.
Current history:
Moved to Watford Constituency 1999, elected Leavesden Ward, Three Rivers District Council, May 2000, re-elected May 2003 and 2007 (77% ofvote). Chair of Public Services and Health Policy Panel, now Policy and Scrutiny Committee since 2000-, member Development Control Committee 2000-04. Member of the Three Rivers Joint Highways Panel since 2005. Chair of Abbots Langley Area Forum 2006-08. Three Rivers rep on County wide Herts Waste Group, Sept 2000-2006 and Vice Chair of that group Sept 2000-2006. Elected to Abbots Langley Parish Council for Leavesden ward in by-election in March 2008 (polling 92% of the vote). Member of the Leisure Committee. Chair of Watford Joint Highways Panel.
Elected Herts County Council, Central Watford and Oxhey Division June 2001, re-elected May 2005 and June 2009 with over 51% of the vote.
Lib Dem Opposition spokesperson on Transport and Highways: Rotating Chair, Watford Joint Member Highways Panel. Chaired the County Council's Environment Scrutiny Committee May 2005 till May 2008 when it was abolished by the Administration.
Local government interests mainly cover traffic, highways and transport issues.
Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats Opposition Group on the County Council since May 2006.
Mbr London North West Valuation Tribunal 1988-, a Tribunal Chair since 1992 .
Publications: co-author of publications on Harrow elections 1934-1998.
Special interests:
Trustee St Lukes Hospice (Harrow and Brent) (£85,000 raised during Mayoral year).
