Personal details
Born 31/10/40, Exeter, Devon. Educated at Cambridgeshire High School for Boys 1951 – 1959. Obtained a B.Sc. (Hons) at London University 1964, M.Sc. at University of East Anglia 1965, and a Ph.D in Organic Chemistry 1969.
Married to Wendy. Two daughters - Fiona (08/09/71) and Kirsty (28/12/74). They are married and both live in Stevenage. To date we have three grandchildren – Ben (4y), Ellie (3y) and Max (1½y).
Career
In 1965 joined Allen and Hanburys as a Research Chemist. Career progressed via Chemical Development and Pilot Plant Management into Site Management. The latter end of my career with the new Glaxo Pharmaceutical Co. was spent in the design of the chemistry building on their new research site at Stevenage. Having been involved with the planning of the official opening of the site by Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, I retired in 1995.
Local Government and Community
1984 represented the Chadwell ward of Ware Town Council. Mayor 1985/6. 1992 -2000 served on East Herts District Council.
Have lived in Ware for 40 years and have been, and in most cases still am, closely involved with the following community organisations:
Ware Week, Dickensian Evening, Ware Town Centre Partnership, Wodson Park, Skillmann Trust, Christchurch Ware and Ware Rotary Club.
Special Interests
Trustee of a local charity. Private tutor for Maths and Science. Major recreations are grandchildren and golf.
