Secretary of Athletic club in 1940’s before and after war service as Sub Lieutenant (A) R.N.V.R. Rowed Bow in an eight for one season. Competed over 2 to 10 miles as walker represented county. Committee member Rugby Club.

Joined North Mymms Parish Council 1965. Elected Hatfield Rural District 1970, Chairman 1972-73 Elected to Welwyn Hatfield District Council 1973, Chairman1977-78. At various times chaired Works. Development control and Housing committees.

A retired Fellow of The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors involved directly or as head of office in construction and/or maintenance of workshops, office blocks, dock and harbour installations throughout the UK. Bridges, tunnels, underground railways listed structures and Reconstruction of main line rail station with accompanying commercial and residential development. Visiting lecturer to Civil engineering course at two London Polytechnics. In 1981 lead team of consultants in Libya and from 1982 team advising Egyptian government on construction of first underground railway in Africa. .!988-95 consultant on second Channel Tunnel terminal, Heathrow Express and Crossrail
